Chris Backhouse is an independent web developer with 30 years of experience in Software Development. Over the past 3 years, he has specialized in optimising businesses by building customized web applications based on LAMP technologies and PHP frameworks such as Yii. He has been using web platforms for more than 10 years. Previously, Chris provided independent consultancy to international businesses around Europe. His particular expertise lay in the management of introducing advanced technologies into the system development work place and the creation and maintenance of the processes involved. Companies such as Cisco Inc, Hyder plc, and Microsoft UK have benefited in these areas. Chris previously worked in Senior IT Management, managing a variety of Software Development projects from 5 man teams to 25 man teams and multi-million pound projects. Also, he has experience with every aspect of the development life cycle, including Risk Analysis and Management, Statement of Requirements, Cost Analysis, and Resourcing and Scheduling. At all times, Chris has maintained an interest in evolving technologies, from relational databases in the early 1980′s through to Object-oriented software design and development in the 1990′s. Chris now builds web-based, enterprise-wide systems for the web connected world.
Mark Safronov is a professional web application developer from the Russian Federation, with experience and interest in a wide range of programming languages and technologies. He has built and participated in building different types of web applications, from pure computational ones to full-blown e-commerce sites. He is also a proponent of following the current best practices of test-first development and clean and maintainable code. He is currently employed at Clevertech and is working on Yii-based PHP web applications. He was also a maintainer of the popular YiiBooster open source extension for some time. Back in 2008, he translated the book Visual Prolog 7.1 for Tyros, Eduardo Costa, in Russian with a totally new color layout. In 2013, along with Jacob Mumm, he co-authored the book Instant Yii Application Development Starter, Packt Publishing.
Alexander Makarov is an experienced engineer from Russia and has been a Yii framework core team member since 2010. Before joining the Yii core team, he participated in the growth of the CodeIgniter community in Russia. In 2009, he finished the Russian translation of the framework documentation and created the Russian community website. In 2012, he released the Russian version of the book along with Russian community members. In the same year, he was a technical reviewer for three more books: The Yii Book: Developing Web Applications Using the Yii PHP Framework, Larry Ullman Web Application Development with Yii and PHP, Jeff Winesett Yii Rapid Application Development Hotshot, Lauren O'Meara, and James Hamilton In his free time, Alexander writes a technical blog at http://rmcreative.ru/, speaks at conferences, and enjoys movies, music, traveling, photography, and languages. He currently resides in Voronezh, Russia with his beloved wife and daughter.
Matteo Pescarin started his career as a filmsetter. He cofounded a digital agency in 1998 with Emanuele Tozzato and became an expert in Flash in 2001, giving talks and writing guides on it. He later decided to distance himself from closed source technologies and committed himself to open standards and open source, joining the Gentoo Channel Italia, an Italian-wide Linux User Group dedicated to the famous distro. He became passionate about HTML and XML-related semantic technologies, combining, once again, his passion for 2D graphics with programming. Matteo moved to London, UK, in 2009 after getting a CS degree. While still working on LAMP technologies, he started learning and specializing on the project management and quality assurance side of work, where his major interests still lie. During his spare time, Matteo pretends to be a world-renowned artist and a formidable cook.
