JJ Tavernier is a Principal Engineer and Director in IG Tech for Capital Group. He has over 24 years of software engineering and applied science experience in the finance, ecommerce, defense & intelligence, and telecom industries. In his current role, JJ leads Fundamental Research and AI/ML engineering initiatives at Capital Group, working with engineers, scientists, product managers, UX designers, and investment professionals to design, build, and operate technologies that enable our investment professionals to be more efficient and effective. Prior to joining Capital Group, JJ spent 10 years at Amazon - the last 5 as a Principal Software Development Engineer, primarily focused on large scale personalization and optimization of its shopping experiences, and 6 years building natural language understanding systems for public sector customers as a Principal Engineer at CACI. JJ has an MS in Computer Science from Virginia Tech and a BS in Computer Science from the University of Virginia.
